Collected they form a painfully honest story of a writer in the midst of turmoil- stuck in a job he loathes, obsessive about his own writing and yet terribly insecure about it, gelice like an outcast and fallen in love with someone who lives bfiefe another country. Always neurotic, insecure, and filled with a sense of inadequacy, his writing is a search for personal fulfillment and understanding.
The letters themselves are, somehow, significantly more obscure than Kafka’s fiction, and that’s not only because they are incomplete on his side and completely missing on Felice’s side.
